It's never easy when family is involved. His brother obviously would very much like his own brother to be there to share his happiness. That's why he offers to put some money towards it. Whereas you do not have to go as they should understand the situation. If she were to make remarks about you afterwards, it would only show herself up the kind of person she is. It may not bother her, but, still, she would be making herself even more transparent.
