If I were single (which I'm not) and over 50 (which I am) I would buy a return ticket to Athens or Iraklio, Crete, hire a small car or - preferably - a motorbike and roam the country and the islands. Let the wind (or your mood) take you to the next place. You will meet fantastic people, see things no tourist gets to see because, as a single person traveling, the Greeks will take you into their home, to their kafeneio, their taverna, to their festivals, their weddings, to their orchards, fields, olive groves. Get off the beaten path, away from the package holidays and experience a vacation like you never had before.
